Mr. Akers

This holiday season, home for the holidays holds a deeper meaning for the Akers family.
After initially coming to Cornerstone to recover from complications from COVID19, Mr. Akers returned to the hospital for a second time to heal from an infection. As he was preparing to return to our hospital, Mrs. Akers shared that she was choosing Cornerstone again because of the prior respiratory efforts to successfully wean Mr. Akers from the ventilator and the rehabilitation team’s ability to improve her husband’s mobility.
When Mr. Akers arrived for a second time, he was on a tracheostomy tube, required minimum assistance for bed mobility and maximum assistance for transfers.
In three weeks at Cornerstone, Mr. Akers made excellent progress and was weaned from the tracheostomy tube! With standby assistance from our rehabilitation team, Mr. Akers could move out of bed without help and walk 250 feet with a rolling walker. Mr. Akers was discharged home, where he will receive home health services. We’re so honored to make a difference for Mr. Akers and his loved ones!
