Ms. Matthews

Linda Matthews was admitted to Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals West Monroe to receive continued care for bilateral collapsed lungs that required chest tubes. When she arrived, Linda needed maximum or total assistance with activities of daily living and transfers. Our clinical team collaborated with the rehabilitation team to develop an individualized treatment plan to help Linda’s respiratory function, strength, and endurance.
In an effort to optimize Linda’s ability to achieve her goals, our respiratory therapist placed Linda on a portable ventilator. This ventilator allowed Linda to work on her mobility with the rehabilitation team in the gym. Linda, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2019, inspired us all with her motivation to succeed.
As discharge day neared, Linda improved to minimal assistance for transfers with a sliding board and could walk 150 feet with a rolling walker! Linda was discharged to a skilled nursing facility to continue her respiratory and therapy progress!
